Analysis Questions
There are a few simple things you can do to make sure you get the most accurate results. First off, try to come without any makeup or self tanner on—this helps me see your natural skin tone without any products altering it (makeup wipes are provided if needed). Also, make sure to wait at least a week if you’ve just had a spray tan treatment. If you wear glasses, I will ask you to remove them during the draping as they can cast shadows on your face and make it trickier to determine your best colors.
During a personal color analysis, we take a thoughtful, in-depth approach to identifying the colors that harmonize with your natural features. The session begins with a brief consultation and introduction to color analysis, followed by a guided draping process using precision color fabrics. Together, we observe how different tones interact with your personal color harmony. As the analysis progresses, your best palette is carefully refined, taking into account your undertone, value, and chroma. We also explore how your seasonal palette translates into ideal hair color direction and makeup shades, helping you create a cohesive, polished look from head to toe. By the end of the session, you’ll have a personalized framework to confidently select clothing, makeup, and accessories that feel polished and natural to you.
Of course! Metals and neutrals are an important part of the analysis, and we review them in detail. During your session, we evaluate a range of metal tones, including white gold, gunmetal, rose gold, yellow gold, and antique gold, to determine which finishes are your best. We also explore a curated selection of neutrals, featuring both warm and cool options, so you can clearly see which versions of white, beige, gray, and other foundational shades work best for you.
Of course! I always have an extra seat available for a guest. If you are planning to bring a crowd with you, please let me know ahead of time so I can make sure everyone has a comfortable place to be during the session!
A full color analysis is a comprehensive session where we discover your home season along with your best subseason (e.g. Dark Winter or Bright Spring). We go through a full draping where we find your best colors, neutrals, and metals. This session usually lasts at least 1.5 hours and includes a color fan for your subseason along with a hair & makeup consultation.
A mini analysis is a shorter session designed to give you a quick starting point. Lasting under 30 minutes, it allows us to identify your home season (Winter, Spring, Summer, or Autumn), along with your most flattering neutrals and metals. You’ll also receive a color card featuring your season’s palette to help guide your choices. Mini sessions are available for large group events where time is limited.
A sister season is another subseason that shares the same dominant chromatic characteristic with your subseason. For example, Bright Winter and Bright Spring are sister seasons because they both share the main characteristic of brightness. Your sister season will have some colors that suit you well.
The idea of a completely “neutral” undertone can be somewhat misleading. Even individuals who appear balanced between warm and cool typically lean slightly in one direction. In professional color analysis, this is often described as neutral-warm or neutral-cool rather than purely neutral. While some undertones may seem more subtle or balanced at first glance, there is always an underlying temperature that helps guide the most harmonious color choices.
Yes, the 12 season system can type all individuals. However, we are all very unique, so some may fall into their season more easily than others. In some cases, an individual may be borderline between two seasons, and this is something I would discuss in detail with the client during their appointment.
Popular Questions
If you have color-treated hair, color analysis can still be very effective – we just have to tweak the approach a bit! Natural hair color is a factor in determining your season, but when it’s dyed, your skin undertone color becomes the central focus. I’ll have you pull your back and will provide a head covering during portions of the analysis to make sure that we find your natural undertones.
If color-treated hair significantly alters your overall look (for example, a deep brunette who colors their hair platinum blonde), we’ll discuss whether you’d prefer your analysis to reflect your current hair color or your natural coloring. This ensures your results feel both accurate and aligned with how you present yourself day-to-day.
Yes! Color analysis is based primarily on your natural undertone, skin clarity, and overall harmony, not solely on the pigment in your hair. As hair loses melanin, your most flattering colors don’t disappear, they simply express themselves differently. During an analysis, gray hair is evaluated as part of your current contrast level and overall coloring, helping determine which shades will enhance brightness, balance, and elegance. Many clients find that embracing their natural gray actually makes their best colors clearer and easier to wear.
Yes! Gift cards are available for both in-person and virtual analysis on the Gift Cards page. In-person color analysis gift cards are available as either an e-gift card (delivered digitally) or a premium physical card mailed to you or the recipient. Virtual analysis gift cards are only offered as digital e-gift cards at this time. Each gift purchase includes a unique coupon code that can be entered at checkout in the “Add coupons” section. Gift cards never expire. Please note: a color analysis gift card guarantees the recipient a full color analysis experience at any time in the future, even if our pricing changes.
I am happy to come to your location and do a group color analysis party! These group sessions are a wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion or enjoy a refined gathering with friends. Because each event is thoughtfully customized, availability and travel considerations may vary. Please visit the Group Color Analysis page for an overview of options or feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] to discuss your event details and determine whether your location is a good fit.
Since children’s features are still changing and developing, I suggest not doing an analysis until after 14 years old. However, if you still wish to have your little one analyzed, I am happy to accommodate as long as they are able to sit still for the draping!
Color analysis is designed to work beautifully for all skin tones. Regardless of complexion, every individual has a unique combination of undertone, chroma, and depth that guides which colors feel most harmonious. Discovering your best palette is not determined by how light or deep your skin appears, but by the overall balance of your natural coloring. At Twelve Season Studio, we are proud to offer professional color analysis services for clients of all backgrounds, tones, and ethnicities.
Color analysis is for everyone, regardless of gender, personal style, or aesthetic. The process focuses on identifying the hues that harmonize with your natural features, creating a look that puts you in focus. Many men find that understanding their best colors brings clarity to wardrobe choices and enhances a confident, well-put-together appearance. Rather than following trends, color analysis provides a timeless framework for selecting shades that genuinely work for you, which is an approach that anyone can benefit from.
The quick answer is no. Your undertone will never change, so your “main” season (Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn) will always remain the same. However, we do lose intensity in our features as we age, so it’s possible that you may become a softer or lighter version of your current season.
Studio Questions
I currently offer in-person color analysis from my in-home studio in Huntsville, Alabama, conveniently located off Zierdt Road near Town Madison. Please visit the Contact page for additional details.
I completed my training with Mariana Marques of The Outfit Curator in January 2025. My studies included education for both in-person and virtual color analysis.

I use an expanded 12-season methodology for color analysis, offering a more precise and individualized approach to identifying your most flattering colors. This system goes beyond undertone alone, also evaluating factors such as overall intensity, value, and contrast. Building upon the traditional four-season framework, the expanded model divides each main category — Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter — into three distinct subseasons. This allows for greater nuance and personalization. So rather than being classified broadly as a “Summer” or “Winter,” you will receive a more tailored designation such as “Light Summer” or “Deep Winter.”
My path into color analysis grew from both a lifelong appreciation for “attention to details” along with a personal experience with the the impact of color. I hold a degree in Computer Science and worked professionally as a computer programmer, where precision, pattern recognition, and problem-solving were central to my job. After choosing to step away from my career to focus on being a stay-at-home mother, I had a color analysis myself and experienced firsthand how transformative it could be (not just aesthetically, but in the confidence it brought). That journey led me to pursue certification in color analysis and bring together my skill sets of creativity and analysis, helping clients experience the confidence and ease that comes from truly understanding their colors.
